                           Police Chief

The City of Cloquet, Minnesota (pop. 12,156) is seeking a strategic leader to serve as its next Police Chief Position reports to the City Administrator and manages a staff of 19 sworn and two civilian employees and an annual budget of $2.2 million. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in police administration, criminal justice or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Must have eight years of progressive experience as a licensed police officer, including four years in a supervisory capacity; command experience is preferred. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Appointment of successful candidate contingent upon Minnesota POST licensure. Qualified candidates must demonstrate leadership abilities including experience improving operational effectiveness and implementing change. Must have experience in establishing department goals and performance standards, budget development and administration and human resources and staffing. Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills are required. Experience working in a union environment preferred. West Liberty Iowa Police Chief

POLICE CHIEF

SPENCER, IOWA


The City of Spencer, Iowa, (Pop 11,233)is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. The current Chief is retiring and the position is open July 1, 2014. Spencer has a 20 sworn and seven non-sworn member department with an annual budget of $1,789,301. The department operates the 911 Communications Center in conjunction with the Clay County Sheriff. Spencer is the county seat for Clay County and is located in northwestern Iowa, just 17 miles from Iowa's Great Lakes region.

The police chief is appointed by the mayor, and works under the general direction of the city manager, but exercises significant independent judgement and initiative. The city is seeking a proven law enforcement leader that can work collaboratively with other city departments to realize the goals of the City Council.

Education and experience requirements:

Extensive experience in modern administrative police work which has afforded progressively responsible experience in a variety of police functions, including supervisory duties. Minimum education is a 2 year criminal justice degree or equivalent. Experience requirement is 10 years law enforcement experience and 5 years experience as a law enforcement supervisor.

Compensation:

The Chief of Police is an FLSA exempt position. The salary range is $65,816 to $80,000. Benefits are paid vacation, sick leave, personal leave, holiday leave, health and life insurance and clothing allowance. The position includes participation in the Municipal Police and Fire Retirement (Chapter 411, Iowa Code)
