Welcome to the Secretary-Treasurer page of the Iowa Peace Officers Association. I have 34 years of Law Enforcement experience. Most of those,24 years as Police
Chief in Denver and the past 11 years with the Bremer County Sheriffs Office. I had
the pleasure of serving as President of the Association in 2000 and assumed the Secretary-Treasurer duties in December of 2005. If you have questions or concerns
about membership, please contact me. I am also privileged to work with the Iowa D.A.R.E. Advisory Board and serve the youth of Iowa as Deputies and Officers
throughout the state work to reduce the use of drugs among our youth and to assist
them in making good decisions and choices for their future. Our Association was
their at the beginning of D.A.R.E. in Iowa and we have always supported the program.
We continue to search for interesting articles for future magazines, departments that
wish to submit articles are requested to contact me by email. We are very interested
in your department and this is your opportunity to let the rest of us know what's been
going on in your jurisdiction. Articles pertaining to current training issues would be
most welcome. The next deadline is December 1st, for the Winter Issue of Iowa Law Enforcement. My contact information is attached.
The Board is continuing to update the site and offer more information that Officers
have requested in the past. Check the page often as we continue to change and
update items. Send us information you may want posted in regards to your
department. We were extremely honored to host Calibre Press Officer Survival
Training in 2009 at Altoona. We had approximately 140 attend the two day training. Those in attendance were most favorable in their post-conference critiques. We
intend to offer this quality training at future conferences. We also had about 65 first
time attendees, this was fantastic, hope to see you in the future.
Our 2010 Conference took place on April 13th and 14th. "Verbal Judo" by
Dr. Thompson was the topic of this years training conference in Pleasant Hill at the
Des Moines PD PARC center. All that were in attendance were very supportive of
the training and will benefit from their attendance. This training is unique and
beneficial to all of us as we communicate with others and an awareness of our
manner of conversation.
The 2011 Conference was held in Sioux City on May 2nd and 3rd, the focus of training will involved Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. Steve Cook presented for two days on a
variety of situations and events that have taken place throughout
the USA and the knowledge he shared will help each of those in attendance when they encounter these dangerous situations.
Twenty Vendors were on hand to display and share information
on a large variety of items and services that are available to Law Enforcement in Iowa.
This Web Page is available to our Members to advertise Law Enforcement related training that you may be hosting. If you would like to be listed under the Training
section, send us the information and the link to your local site for further information. We can also post Job Openings and Help Wanted ads.
Our magazine, "Iowa Law Enforcement" & "The Iowa Gold Star" have joined together
for an all new publication. This offers a great opportunity to our Advertisers as they
double their circulation with one ad. Please contact me for further information.
